The coffers of the American Red Cross received a generous donation Wednesday morning from the people of the Perry Equipment Corporation.

The fund raising began the first of September when PECO offered to match whatever amount the employees were able to contribute for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Fast forward less than a month later and the approximately 250 employees that make up PECO had collected $4,180.

When PECO matched that amount, company President Laine Perry was able to present $8,360 to Sheldon Johnson, chapter manager of the North Central Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Doris McConnell, manager, commented this was the first donation the company and its employees have made for hurricane relief.  "Like all Americans, all of those at PECO are deeply saddened by the terrible loss of life and appalled at the catastrophic damage inflicted by both Hurricane Katrina and Rita," said a statement released by PECO.   "A tragedy of this magnitude will require the assistance of the entire nation in rebuilding the communities that were in the path of the storm."
